Chapter 4: App Promotion


Get the Word Out!

Your app is approved, your plans are set, and your team is up to speed. It’s time to let people know about your app!

Action Item: Create an awareness plan that encompasses all avenues for app promotion.

Plan how how you will promote the app on your website, social media networks, email marketing, traditional media, print, and at your event venue.


Website Integration

Add a Mobile App Promotion page to your organization’s website. On this page, you should include:

  • Separate iTunes and Google Play links.
  • Several app screenshots.
  • Text explaining what the app does.
  • Your Audience Incentives.

Integrate one of our Widgets depending on your type of website into the website’s page code.  These widget codes can be found in your InstantEncore control panel.

  • App Banner Widget (for responsive websites)
  • Mobile Redirect Script (for non-responsive websites)


Social Media

Schedule periodic posts across Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc. Posts about the app are fine, but as time goes on, be more indirect.  Promote unique content that is only available in the app instead of the app itself. People will download the app to check out that content.

  • Create a different SmartURL for each platform.
  • Use bit.ly or goo.gl to shorten the URL and help track clicks.
  • Include a screenshot of the app when possible.



Email is still a very popular communication tool for nearly every arts organization.  Don’t miss this opportunity to message your patrons whenever an email is sent.Create a general email announcement. Be sure to include:

  1. A SmartURL
  2. An app screenshot
  3. Text explaining what the app does.
  4. Your Audience Incentives.
  • Add reminder about the app with a SmartURL to the bottom of every marketing email sent out in the future.
  • Create a mutual press release with InstantEncore.


Broadcast Media

Whenever you promote your upcoming events or season activities with your local or regional broadcast partners make sure to include a reference to  your mobile app.  Every mention gets you one step closer to patron engagement.

  • Programs (in venue)
  • Postcards or business cards promoting your app (in venue)
  • Ticket Stubs (in venue)
  • Physical mail (postcards)
  • Local or regional newspapers



There are many great opportunities to let people know about the app at your performance venue.

  • Banners at entry the front door can include a QR code for people to scan and download the app.
  • A Selfie Stand encourages people to take photos and share via the app’s social features.
  • Try projecting a simple message like “Download our app today!” on the floor in the path of where people walk.
  • Images displayed on a screen next to or above the stage can catch people’s eye while they wait for the show to start.
  • On-stage spoken announcements take advantage of a captive audience to get the word out.
